Hi, I'm Cole, a writer and journalist based in New York City.

I'm currently a reporter at Argus Media. I write about carbon markets and climate policy in North America, with a focus on the northeastern United States.

Previously, I was a staff writer and reporter in Washington, DC for Resources, the editorial arm of the energy think tank Resources for the Future. I wrote a weekly newsletter about pressing news in the energy and environment world, edited blogs from expert researchers, and contributed features for the print magazine.

My first exposure to environmental journalism was at the University of Chicago, where I researched for writer Nathaniel Rich and helped with an op-ed about the Green New Deal eventually published in the New York Times. In college, I also ran my campus paper's opinion section, served as the managing editor for the University of Chicago news site, and studied political science and creative writing.

I'm a recipient of the Margaret C. Annan Award in nonfiction and the David Blair McLaughlin Prize in essay writing, and I was a finalist in the New York Times' 2019 Modern Love College Essay Contest. I won an award from the Stevanovich Institute on the Formation of Knowledge for my senior thesis on the legacy of unequal healthcare policies in the Black Belt South.
