Hi, I'm Cole, a journalist based in New York City. I am fascinated by energy and climate policy and adept at communicating the nuances of complex issues.
I'm currently an associate editor at the energy news and price reporting agency Argus Media. I cover biofuels, with a focus on how US policy is shaping fast-growing markets for renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, and their feedstocks. Previously at Argus, I covered the ins and outs of carbon markets and was a member of the Columbia University Center on Global Energy Policy's 2023 energy journalism fellowship class.
I started my career as a staff writer and reporter in DC for Resources, the editorial arm of the energy economics think tank Resources for the Future. I wrote a weekly newsletter that provided updates on major environmental news and new research, contributed features for the print magazine, and edited blogs from expert researchers.
My first exposure to environmental journalism was at the University of Chicago, where I researched for writer Nathaniel Rich and helped with an op-ed about the Green New Deal eventually published in the New York Times. Also back in college, I led my campus paper's opinion section, won campus awards for nonfiction writing and for my political science thesis, and was a finalist in the New York Times' Modern Love College Essay Contest.
